Soil Conservation Award

The Soil Conservation Award Program was created by the South Dakota Legislature in 2008 to recognize exceptional farming and ranching practices that conserve soil and other natural resources in South Dakota.

Each award winner will receive a certificate and recognition sign, which the recipient may install on the property for which their conservation efforts are being recognized.

Roberts Conservation Scholarship

Roberts Conservation District offers a $500.00 scholarship award to a high school senior in Roberts County. The scholarship is awarded to a student that plans to study an agriculture related field. Deadline to apply is May 1st. For more information, high schools seniors can contact Roberts Conservation District or their schools guidance counselor for more information.

2017 Winners!

We are very pleased to announce the winners of this year’s RCD Memorial Scholarship. The recipients each receiving a $500 scholarship are Amanda Ebben, Caleb Remund, & Ethan Renelt. RCD wishes their future efforts to be equally successful and rewarding.

Amanda is the daughter of David and Tammy Ebben of Wilmot. She plans to attend North Dakota State University in pursuit of Crop Production Sales and Technology. She is currently the Class President, in 4-H, volleyball, basketball, track, and many other achievements at Wilmot High School. Amanda is also an active volunteer in programs such as the Backpack program and youth group activities.

Caleb is the son of John and Melissa Remund of Wilmot. He plans to attend Lake Area Technical Institute in pursuit of Ag Business. He already has high praises from Corona Grain & Feed where he has taken school-to-work classes and plans to keep working in his down time from school. Caleb would like to ultimately return home and continue working at the family’s farm. He is also a member of the Wilmot High School basketball team, band, chorus, and FFA.

Ethan is the son of Brian and Cheryl Renelt of Wilmot. He plans to attend South Dakota State University in pursuit of Precision Agriculture. He is currently in many leadership roles including student council and student manager of football, basketball, volleyball, and track & field. Ethan also participates in many volunteer activities including blood drives, the Backpack program, and National Honor Society activities.

Roberts Conservation District commends them for their dedication and hard work. They deserve to be proud of their achievements. They all have so many we couldn’t list them all! RCD wishes their future efforts to be equally successful and rewarding.

Outstanding Farmer Award

Roberts Conservation District and South Dakota Farmers Union are selecting and honoring a farmer or farmers who best represents(s) farming and ranching and the spirit of agriculture in NE South Dakota. Click here to read more.

Speech Contest

Each year the South Dakota Department of Agriculture, Resource Conservation and Forestry Division, sponsors a resource conservation-oriented speech contest. Any SD student in grades 9-12 is eligible to enter. This includes public, private, and home-school students.

The contest consists of three levels – local, area and state. Two winners from each of the local contests advance to the area contests. Two winners from each of the seven area contests advance to the state competition.

Conservation districts take the lead at the local and area levels, with the Division coordinating the state finals.

East River and Rushmore Electric Power Cooperatives and South Dakota Rural Electric Association present the winners with scholarships to be used at any college, university or accredited vocational technical school within South Dakota. Other co-sponsors include the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts.

$2,300 is available for the top three state finalists, $1,100 for first place, $750 for second place, and $450 for third place.
